this is ever so melodramatic, but after thinking about it for a while, i've decided to forego any future use of the ole' lj.
i've been on here for about four years and have seen the constant ups and downs and new friendships and old ones and new arguments and old ones and after being objective have realized that there's nothing to be gained here that can't be found in the real world where, i hope, the possibility of solidifying current friendships with close friends can begin anew.
besides, simplify simplify simplify . . .
so, goodbye, cruel world. you can still find me writing mediocre poetry on my other, secret journal that you don't know about unless you're in the cool kids club.
hah. just a little final lj humor.

so, in preparation for our trip next week i signed a will and testament so shaundra and alesis would be cared for in the event of my death(or, at least Alesis, in the case we both drown in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean).
i've never been so reminded of my own mortality. ugh. well, no matter. the feeling will quickly fade on the high seas.
take care, see ya'll in februrary.

i usually don't like posting spiritually-related information on here 'cause it's too easy to take out of context. however, i feel extremely expressive and something at bookstudy last nite really caught my eye.
that point in matthew about a great tribulation "such as has not occurred since the world's beginning until now, no, nor will occur again." which reminded me that things are just never gonna get better on their own. they'll get worse first. THEN better.
i have too many friends dealing with so many stupid problems, and we're all so selfish and do the worst things to each other(almost 100% of the time unintentional. and we all know that. it's just so much work to give up our petty grudges 'cause at our imperfect hearts we're loathe to ever be wrong or *gasp* admit it was our fault. half the time we don't even realize what we're doing until someone tells us. then we have to be grownups and listen, otherwise we've just made our silly situation worse. ack! so much easier to never let it get there in the first place. hindsight. i should have this tatooed on my eyelids so as not to forget) 'cause we're so busy just dealing. it's such a good reminder to keep your head down, focus on the important stuff, keep on showing love in every instance possible, and let someone far greater than us deal with making things right in the future.
the positive thing about that paragraph is that we're reminded that the great crowd, as a class, makes it through. hear that? we'll make it. so, no matter what, hang on friends.
we'll be rockin' the jetpacks and building houses under waterfalls and enjoying perfect physical and mental health and learning things we never thought possible and playing with lions and tigers and bears(oh my) and taking the time to open up to everyone without fear of ridicule or betrayal and asking moses what manna tasted like and watching our kids and grandkids and great-grandkids and great-great-grandkids and great-great-great-grandkids grow up without ever knowing a single day of this stupid place we call home.
it sounds like a good plan to me.

syndicated from the saddle creek mailing list:
"Bright Eyes is heading out with Jim James (of My Morning Jacket) and M. Ward for a couple weeks worth of shows. Each person will perform a short, solo set followed by a longer collaborative set featuring all three. A rare and exciting event, be sure to catch it if you can."
so, if you haven't gotten tickets yet, do so. i was thinking this was the standard BE fare, but this could be interesting and new.

i wonder what goes on in people's heads sometimes
i hate to harp on the same stuff over and over again, but that is my personality. i focus intently on one thing until i burn out on it, then go searching for something else that can capture my attention just as forcefully, oftentimes forgetting the vast majority of reasons i liked the previous thing. i guess that speaks pretty strongly about the things in my life i always pay attention to.
anyways, get the "today's the day" single. oh, and summer sun. both are great. i just love the simplicity and strength of "cherry chapstick." what's the point of adding layers when you have such a great song when it's pared down to the essentials.
also, i realized today that i am an absolutely horrible swimmer. i swim extremely well and quickly for about 10 seconds, but i just can't get that "turn-your-head-and-breath-the-air" part down. if only i were a fish.
then, of course, i'd probably have a really hard time walking, which is currently something i am pretty good at.

so, britney's marriage is annulled.
cnn says: nevada law allows for community property between married couples. so, any cash britney had made in that 55 hours could be contested by her newly ex husband.
i say: hmmm . . . considering she made $38.5 million last year, that would make about $4,395 an hour, for a grand total of $241,725.
i need a raise.

seriously, daytrip.
i love you(us) guys. i can't get enough of these songs. so good! and that's without mastering. ugh. seriously, i've got these files uploaded to a web server and i've got an itchy trigger finger, but i'd much rather have people hear the final product first. or, at least something better off than my lamer-than-the-two-virtuoso-like-erics attempts at mastering.
also, please. someone give me a layout for the daytrip site. my flash programming skills are in the process of atrophy . . .
/* var skipIntroButtonWorking = false; var cashFlow = 0; var numberOfDaytripIdeas = 0;
for(i = 0;i < numberOfDaytripIdeas;i++) { createFlashLayout(); createAwesomelyLongFlashIntro(skipIntroButtonWorking); cashFlow += generateRevenueStream(); } */

ugh. it's so cold in here i can't sleep. something is wrong with the broiler/furnace and it's literally under 60 degrees in here. they'll "get to it tomorrow."
also, seriously. why do simple things always have to get blown out of proportion? here's my suggestion. next time you're going to say something to someone, take two seconds to realize what you are actually saying. then, take two more seconds. THEN, if it sounds good(and it's true) then you can say it. save us all the hassle. unfortunately, this usually happens with the people we love the most. and we try so hard to figure it all out.
(editor's note: just to clarify. the previous ambiguous comments were directed into the air and not directly at any one person and were made only in an attempt to make myself look insightful)

so, my project manager was fired yesterday. it's scary how something can just drop on you like that. i guess it pays to always keep all three eyes open. she was a nice person, just let personal life take over her accountability here. i guess it's the same principle we should live by. looks like thom yorke was right.

yet again, the day's text has been related to something i've been thinking about for the past couple days. time to tighten the proverbial belt a couple more notches, i see.
check this site out: http://tru.pjstech.com/. it's a site with a programmer who's compiled the school schedule, day's text, and other research tools and integrated it with WT Library 2001 so that you can click on "source" and it'll go straight to the source for the day's text. it comes with a suite of other tools(theomap has interactive maps of the whole mesopotamian area in different time periods).
also, in other news, i went out to clean off my car this morning, so i slipped on some brown shoes i wouldn't have to unlace. i forget about it and when i sit down at my desk, i realize i've got black pants and black shoes. the nerdy fashion-victim stereotype continues . . .

i pity the sickness others are facing. i do hope things get better for everyone soon.
tonite, people are coming over to watch the video for our tuesday nite meeting. i tried to invite people that i haven't been able to spend as much time with as i would like, which includes some old friend(s) and some new ones i'd like to get to know better from our hall. and two of the craziest 10-12 yr. old kids on earth who i imagine will be the life of the party. first, we'll rock the video, then we'll rock the board games and/or "big fish", depending on the mood of everyone. i look forward to the evening. hopefully we can debut the first mixdowns of our recordings last week.
also, if you happen to be thinking of upgrading your winamp version, don't. really, winamp is an amazing tool that you can't improve on, so they keep adding all this functionality that's completely unnecessary and cumbersome. stick with the basics, and save CPU% for halo.

hah. i got one hour of sleep last nite. but, it was a good hour. daytrip recording session was all in all a success and i think we've got some really great recordings. the backup bombed halfway through, so i've only got one of the songs here, but from what i can tell i'm gonna be very impressed.
the funny thing is, i also found one of our live shows from chicago from a couple years ago and i've heard bits of it before but i'm completely enthralled. it feels good to know you're part of a musical entity that you would listen to if you weren't already part.
i've also realized how much i need my ebow back. if you were the one who stole the ebow from my house, can i have it back? pleeze?
promise for today: there will be a daytriplovesyou.com site update.
post haste.

dear radiohead,
ugh. sorry, radiohead. i'm sure you read this blog quite often, so i just wanted to say I don't like "hail to the thief." a few somewhat enjoyable songs(although i do really like "scatterbrain") just don't justify the rest of your experimental filler. i respect your stance on the music industry in general and it seems like you've never caved into any mainstream requests. for that, i heartily commend you.
however, if you did cave to those mainstream requests, i would probably buy and enjoy your album readily.
of course, this is my own opinion. i've honestly tried several times in different circumstances, but(and this is most likely a reflection of my personality and consumerism) i can't get into it in the slightest bit.
does that make me less or more indie?
sincerely, your fan, joshua

so, had you asked me which boggle/cranium team was my archenemy I would have to say team laser(aka team bling).
this weekend, in a whirlwind of emotion and unexpected events, i suddenly found myself a member of team laser. as we rocked our opponents in tri-bond, i realized that i still don't like team laser, unless i'm on the team, then it is also called team awesome. which is why we rocked EVERYONE at tri-bond.
consider yourself rocked, team everyone else.
